Quarry Island Films was formed in the UK in 2013 to make entertaining films with big ideas.
The company is headed by British-Canadian Janet Wells who has worked in Development at Capitol Films and as a screenwriter for Eon (the James Bond company). She has an MA in screenwriting from London College of Communication (UK), an MBA from Insead (France) and a BCom from Queen’s University (Canada) and lectures at Lincoln University in Screenwriting and Producing.

In the last 5 years, Janet has been working in Kenyan film. Branching out into directing in addition to producing and writing.
In September 2024, Janet launched ‘Boda Love’ a Kenyan romantic comedy about a British woman who falls for an internet romance scam in Kenya and is rescued by a humble boda boda driver and moves into his home. In theatres in September 2024 in Nairobi. As of October, 2024, Boda Love has been nominated for 4 African Movie Academy Awards.
Starring Murunyu Duncan Mungai and Greer Dale-Foulkes, with Justin Mirichii and Muthoni ‘Mo’ Gathecha, and with music from Kenya’s top artists including Charisma, Muthaka, Tetu Shani, Njerae, Njoki Karu, Wanja Wohoro and an original song by Billy Black.
